The New XFL Will House A Team In Washington DC

The XFL, a professional football league that had one stint of a season in 2001, has announced that they are returning in 2020 and that the league will be made up of 8 teams...one of which will be housed in Washington DC!

The DC Defenders will call Audi Field their home (which is also home to the DC United) and look to Pep Hamilton as their head coach. Hamilton spent over 10 years coaching for the NFL with the Cleveland Browns (2016); Indianapolis Colts (2013-15); Chicago Bears (2007-09); San Francisco 49ers (2006) and New York Jets (2003-05) and has worked with the talents of QBs Andrew Luck, Jay Cutler, Alex Smith and Brian Griese during his career. He is familiar with the DC area as well! According to the XFL's website, Hamilton "played quarterback and began his coaching career at his alma mater, Howard University, for five seasons (1997-2001)."

The XFL's season will begin on Feb. 8, 2020.
