Metro Train Derails On Red Line

D.C.'s Metro System To Shut Down For 29 Hours For Massive Inspection

It has been confirmed that a Metro-7000 series train has derailed at the platform of the Silver Spring station (8400 Colesville Rd. near East West Highway) along the red line.

Pete Piringer, Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County (MD) Fire & Rescue Service, went live via Twitter and stated that there are no serious injuries and plenty of resources on site to help repair the situation. In his second video, Piringer said that "it's not too serious" and "it appears as though a couple of cars slipped off the track." He also reported that there is one individual and the conductor who they have yet to reach because they are stuck on the train as the doors have been "jammed shut."
